A Retreat to the Macrocarpa Library

A Retreat to the Macrocarpa Library

March 23, 2024

There's something deeply satisfying about a project coming together, especially one fuelled by the love of stories and a desire to nurture a cosy corner for guests. One of the first projects we took on in collaboration with the lovely Homewerk team is now realised in the form of a custom-built macrocarpa library, complete with one of the best views in the lodge.  The warm glow of the wood and the built-in seating seem to whisper, "Stay a while."

This library is more than just a collection of books; it's an evolving reflection of our passions and the spirit of this place we now call home. We're slowly curating a selection focused on celebrating the wonders of Aotearoa – its natural beauty, its cultural history, and the creative spark that burns so brightly here.

You won't find overflowing shelves just yet. Our library is a work in progress, and the joy lies in discovering new gems to add over time. For now, you might find yourself drawn to the  "Field Guide to New Zealand's Native Trees" by John Dawson and Rob Lucas, where you can uncover the secrets of towering giants and delicate ferns. Or perhaps "Fungi of Aotearoa" will reveal the hidden world of mushrooms and their vital role in the ecosystem.

For those seeking deeper connection, volumes like "Tikanga Maori" and "Tikanga Whakaaro" offer a glimpse into the wisdom of Maori traditions. If tales of the Coromandel ignite your imagination, "Tales Of Northern Coromandel" is waiting to unveil local lore.

Art and creativity find their place too. "Wabi Sabi Welcome" invites a mindful appreciation of everyday beauty.  "Salt Fat Acid Heat Cookbook" promises culinary inspiration.  And "The Sun and Her Flowers" by Rupi Kaur offers poetic insights. If you crave award-winning prose, classics like "The Bone People" or contemporary marvels like "Overstory" await discovery.

This is just the beginning, a glimpse into the literary adventures that will unfold within the lodge’s macrocarpa sanctuary. We hope you'll linger within its comforting embrace, drawn into captivating stories and inspired by the boundless wonders of this special place we're so fortunate to share.
