Nau mai haere mai
Recently renovated, we have four guest suites, two with private balconies. We also have shared spaces like the sundeck, library, lounge, and dining hall — great for meeting kindred spirits. But with two hectares of beautiful whenua (land), there’s also plenty of space for you to do your own thing
The lodge and its surroundings
The location
Perched on a hillside overlooking the Hauraki Gulf, this spot really lets you take in the wonders of Coromandel. And trust us, the views never get old. We are a quick drive to town and a 6-minute drive in either direction to a gorgeous bay; it’s pretty hard to beat.
Flora
With approximately 80% of NZ’s flowering plants, trees, and ferns being endemic, it’s a dreamy experience to be so close to New Zealand's native flora. From the towering Rimu, the tall, swaying manuka and kanuka, the majestic kauri trees to the bright ferns and harakeke, Buffalo Lodge’s surroundings are adorned with nature's artwork.
Birdlife
At Buffalo Lodge, we're blessed with the presence of native birdlife. Awaken to the melodious songs of tui and the gentle hums of kereru, and as dusk descends, be serenaded by the calls of ruru and, if you’re lucky, the elusive kiwi. Sitting on the deck at sunset, watching the spectacle of the birds swooping and chasing one another across the sky, it's a mesmerising sight to behold.
Walking tracks
We are in the process of creating tracks on the land so you can walk amongst the native bush, alongside the babbling creek, amidst the hum of insects and birds. Outside of our developing bush paths, another path leads you to our fruit orchard, where we encourage you to help yourself to a selection of plums, peaches, feijoa, apples, persimmons, grapefruit, lemons, limes, and figs.
Our story
This is a tale of two best friends turned partners trading the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles for a transformative lifestyle change in Coromandel, NZ. One dreamer, one pragmatist. One big picture thinker, one who’s always in it for the details. Two hearts amidst an unfolding story.
After living in Coromandel Town for 6 years as a social worker and data analyst, we are following new passions and lofty dreams, and taking on this next chapter. As we evolve, we hope to build our offerings and co-create space for new, meaningful opportunities for connections within our community while extending our reach to travellers from around the globe.
Having fallen in love with the area on our first drive up the 25 coast road (yeah, we fall hard and fast), we uprooted and settled here. We are eager to share the beauty of this laid-back lifestyle, the spirit of this creative town, and the breath-taking landscapes that now feel like home.
